Reflections on campaigning
Voting day being tomorrow, I was thinking about things I’ve loved about campaigning door-to-door:
• People are really engaged! There’s also an amazing amount of consensus around what we in this ward want for our city.
• Getting to know the neighbourhood dogs, and the way they wag their butts now with excitement when they spot me.
• The supportive cheering wherever I go, and in particular my little neighbour who urges you to “Vote for our neighbourhood Kelly!” every time she sees one of my lawn signs.
• All of the people who have offered me drinks, food, warm outerwear, an umbrella, encouragement, and most of all, taken the time to talk.
It’s interesting how many people remark that canvassing is hard work. It’s actually great, and probably the easiest thing you should expect of someone who wants to serve you.
